Uniting To Save The 2A
It’s hard to put into words what has happened in 2020. I’m sure 30 years from now as we tell the story of this year to our grandchildren. It will sound like the plot of a horror or science fiction movie. In all reality 2020 has been a record year for gun sales and a turning point in the gun rights movement. We saw a pandemic with a 99.4% survival rate, rioting, looting, and other societal unrest. Many that were unprepared were left in a really bad spot. Some that have never thought about owning a firearm were quickly going out to buy guns. In Oregon new gun owners, those that thought you could go into a store and buy one or thought you can just buy one online were stopped in their tracks. Those that seek to restrict our rights have spread misinformation about how the gun buying process works. New gun owners were caught up in the background check process, sometimes having to wait up to 10 days to take possession of their new firearm. 10 days is an eternity if you are in fear for your life and the life of your family. Now we have an ammo shortage which is adding to the chaos.
Let’s talk numbers. Data is one of the most important things that we have on our side. In the United States, there are an estimated 450 million firearms, around 100 million lawful gun owners, and in 2020 there have been an estimated 19 million new guns sold. According to the NSSF, there have been an estimated 5 million brand new gun owners!! This is huge for us and is very exciting. How do we capitalize on the infusion of new gun owners into our rank? That is the million-dollar question! How do we unite all of us under the common flag of the 2A?
We have to all unite under one common theme of the Second Amendment. This isn’t a right vs left issue this a good vs evil issue. There are evil forces at work in our country working towards the disarmament of law-abiding gun owners. They fear what they do not understand or maybe their plan is more diabolical, who knows? All that we know is that they are well organized, well funded, and motivated. While their cause is less than righteous they are brainwashed enough to actually believe they will actually save lives. Contrary to their beliefs, this will never save lives. Training and education will do more than any new law. No matter who you voted for, 2021 looks to be another assault on our 2A rights. We all come from different backgrounds, different political points of view but, what does unite us is our god-given right to lawful self-defense. What could easily separate us is now something that binds us together.
Under the Biden administration gun owners are in deep trouble. He has been recorded stating that he will ban almost every type of firearm commonly owned for self-defense. We cannot allow this to happen, there is too much at stake. Could you imagine for a second going through what we went through in 2020 without having the ability to defend yourself or your family because of an executive order? I’d hate to even think about it. This is our time to shine. Together, united we can make an impact and stop these unconstitutional measures.
Gun owners are knowledgeable, caring, and law-abiding. I think that we need to be more inclusive and inviting for new gun owners. Let’s make it a habit to check in with our neighbors, teach them how to maintain and operate their new firearms. Let’s build a bridge to let them know that they are not alone, that we do care about them and their families. Let’s keep our politics out of it. I know this will be a challenge, it will take practice. Let’s share our experience with those that lack experience. Let’s share a box of ammo with those that need it. Goodwill is the difference between uniting and the status quo There are an estimated 105 million law-abiding gun owners, together we are forced to be reckoned with. Till next time, carry on!!
