As I sit down to write this blog post, it is the morning of the first Presidential debate. I enjoy writing and find it therapeutic. Part of the process, I have to research a current and relevant topic. One week it will be a blog post for the Kids S.A.F.E. Foundation website and the next week it will be for this website. I wear multiple hats at times and it is all part of the deal. I think that in the current state of affairs, law-abiding citizens face threats on multiple fronts. It could be further restrictions and rhetoric from politicians, it could be their bad policies that have led to an increase in violent crime. It could be inflation which has pushed families to the breaking point. It could be the rampant drug abuse, and homelessness, which have led to an uptick in mental health issues with our neighbors. I refer to them as neighbors as a way to humanize this crisis. Every person struggling on the street is someone’s relative, friend, or family member. It is truly sad. The last threat and one that I believe is being swept under the rug is the border crisis!

Every day, thousands of people from foreign countries pour into our country, arguably with no way of knowing their backgrounds or intent. This is a big problem. While I do empathize with the plight of illegal immigrants, what they are doing is by definition illegal. I think one of the most frustrating parts for me is how the politicians continue to change the definitions of the situation as a ploy to downplay its catastrophic impact on this great nation. What we do know is that there are millions of people who are here, we don’t know who they are and how they could be a possible threat to our citizens. I want to be clear, this post isn’t meant to scare people but it does fit into our mission set of prepared citizens. As prepared citizens, we must protect and defend ourselves from threats either foreign or domestic. We will talk about what this looks like for you and your family, in your area.

American flag, stars and stripes, USA symbol

First off, last night as I was watching the news. They ran a story about there is an estimated 400 ISIS-tied fighters that have entered the country and have simply disappeared. While 400 out of the estimated 342 million people in this country might not seem like much. If you think about it from a defensive mindset, this “could” be 400 lone wolf attackers on the loose. I am only bringing this up for conversation but, as a prepared citizen. What changes are you making in your daily life to help mitigate risk? That doesn’t mean that we hole up in our houses and not live in paranoia. It means we make changes to our family’s safety plans. This means instead of carrying a small compact gun, maybe we switch to a full-size handgun for concealed carry. We might add a few spare magazines, maybe a pocket medical kit. As our threats evolve so should our EDC (everyday carry.) Are you aware of your route to and from work? Do you frequent gun-free zones? If you didn’t already know 94% of mass killings happen within a GFZ!! According to the FBI, the true definition of a mass killing is 4+ killed in a shooting. This number will vary depending on what anti-gun organization reports the data!! Don’t get me started here, this is a complete post by itself.

An important part to a prepared citizen is having intention when in public. Get in, get what you need, and get out. Your vehicle and your home are your safe spaces. While we need to be mindful of carjackings, the accelerator helps you avoid conflict. There may be many good, decent people entering our country, but the demographic of violent criminals is what we all should be aware of. We are already seeing young women violently attacked, raped, and even murdered by these monsters. We cannot leave our heads in the sand any longer. We must be prepared, we must teach our children situational awareness. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. How is your home defense? Do you have good locks on your doors? Do you have security cameras? Do you have a defensive firearm staged so only YOU can access it in an emergency? These are all important questions that you should know the answers to. In my own life, I can answer yes to every question I have asked. This is why these questions are fresh in my mind. It is not because I’m paranoid, it is because I am prepared. There is a big difference between the two.

America is the shining city on the hill. I understand why people want to come here, I get it, but we have to protect our country. We do this by showing up in November. We have to have our voices heard. We have two candidates, one will help work towards fixing the problem. The other one is the problem, period!! I try hard not to get political in my posts. My posts are meant for those who are prepared or middle of the road. I am reasonable with my words because I have an obligation to the public to present the information in a way that will resonate with you, the reader! I want people to exercise their rights, I want families to be safe, and most importantly I want our country to continue to be great. I have never cared for the slogan “Make America Great Again.” In my opinion, America has always been great and always will be.

In closing, we are entering very perilous times as a country. We must be prepared, we must band together as citizens. Left, right, purple, green, or other. We are united by one thing, we are all Americans, either by birth or by choice. Look out for your family, know that there are wolves in our country. Protect yourselves and your families. Protect those who can’t protect themselves. Show up in November, and help us change this insanity. Until next time. Be safe!!
